"You've got no cool, you've got no art. You see, that's what art is: it's passionate emotions recollected in cool tranquility."
Deidara is every bit as explosive as his art. Despite what he says, there's nothing tranquil about him. Cool is subjective. Rather he thinks himself as cool, both as an artist and a member of the Akatsuki (read: international terrorist organization bent on capturing giant multiple tailed pokemon to bring about "world peace"). Though there are times where Deidara seems to exude a calm, almost suave smoothness. One has to look cool and above everyone else as part of the Akatsuki. And he does feel that he is above everyone else, especially when it comes to his art. There are also times when he feels certain emotions so strongly that it just... explodes... out of him. Unfortunately, these emotions are rarely positive: anger, irritation, exhilaration at the thought of having killed someone. He can be very temperamental when slighted and his outbursts can range from comedic (when directed toward his partner, Tobi, who frequently gets on his nerves) to obsessively dangerous.
And nothing upsets an artist more than when his art is insulted.
Deidara can be as one expects a stereotypical pretentious artist to be like: proud and believing that anyone who doesn't appreciate his art doesn't understand it. That isn't to say he looks down on everyone. He respects other members of the Akatsuki as fellow artists and even his partner Sasori who held an opposing artistic view from him, claiming art was eternal. Art, to this guy, is ephemeral. Temporary. "Art is an explosion", after all. For Deidara, the explosions are literal. His preferred art medium is sculpture, specifically chakra infused clay figures which he can detonate on command. Deidara is all about things that go boom and he goes on about this in an almost manic manner. True art, according to him, lives only in a moment, specifically in the moment of explosion since that is when he believes his pieces become more sublime. The man lives for his art. Breathes art. Won't shut up about his art. Almost every time he opens his mouth, there's some kind of art related pun that escapes him. He has an almost near twisted obsession with his art. His art makes him impulsive and he will do anything for it. As his art, his explosive ninjutsu is his raison d'etre and is perfect and thus unbeatable. Or so he believed until he came face to face with the Sharingan.
It was at the hands of Itachi Uchiha's sharingan that Deidara "lost his pride as an artist". He hadn't expected to find himself defeated so soundly and so easily by anyone that it left an impression on him. It was enough to get him to join the Akatsuki and enough for Deidara to carry an intense hatred for the signature red eyes of the sharingan. You can say his hatred for the sharingan is felt just as strongly as his focus on his art: all encompassing and near obsessive. It came to the point where Deidara trained his left eye to counter genjutsu (illusory techniques) and developed a technique of his own for the sole purpose of ultimately defeating Itachi.
This also brings to light how smart Deidara can be. His intelligence is one of his second highest stats and it shows. He's observant and this helps him study his opponent, taking note of any strengths or weaknesses in them or their abilities. This allows him to strategize as needed, utilizing his own explosions to exploit those weaknesses. He trained his eye to be able to break genjutsu, noticing Itachi's reliance on them in battle. These in turn became skills he used when battling Sasuke who was also a sharingan user. He can also read patterns of behavior, from Sasuke's own use of genjutsu to the way Gaara gathered sand to prepare an effective counterattack. His intelligence also shows with his art. His signature clay explosives aren't the result of one ninjustu but a combination of two: his inherent explosive release and a stolen forbidden jutsu. When your chakra can be made to explode, all you need to make it better is to be able to infuse it into the clay sculptures you enjoy making and there you go: clay bombs you can manipulate and detonate when you need them to. He managed to combine both techniques to make something perfectly signature to him.
Powers
Explosive release: Deidara's signature skill is a combination of two techniques: his inborn explosive release which allows him to create explosions using his chakra and a forbidden technique which gave him the mouths (fully functional in terms of biting, chewing, slobbering and barfing. It spits, not swallows. ) on his chest and palms which allow him to infuse chakra into clay. He then shapes this clay into various figures which he can control and detonate at will. But these aren't mere figures. The creatures he creates move on their own, manipulated by his chakra. He can have them walk to their target or wrap around his opponent and even make them big enough to ride which he does often.
Noteable variants:
C4 - tiny microscopic bug like things that are inhaled and enter the opponent's bloodstream. When there, they explode, causing damage on a cellular level and destroy whatever inhaled them from the inside out.
C3 - a nuke. Usually dropped while Dei is hovering over the target. Starts out small and becomes huge as it descends, having enough explosive power to level a small town. (I predict this will be nerfed entirely)
C2 - A dragon. A huge dragon. Capable of firing homing "baby dragon" missiles at the enemy. Can fly. (Also possibly nerfed)
C1 - His most basic clay useage. Can form into different creatures, usually birds for transport or hurling at opponents.
C0 - His magnum opus. A one time suicide bomb attack using a mouth over his chest. Normally, it's stitched shut but when using C0, it's fed clay and since it's so close to his heart, vast amounts of chakra can be built, resulting in a nuclear bomb level explosion. Its strength and radius is much larger than c3's. (Also likely nerfed. When I had him in Lagunbiru, I had it so that those stitches couldn't be undone. I'm happy to do that here, too.)
